Nextcloud on Apache, PHP and MariaDB

MILOUD NECILI

Fraîche Flow · IT Systems Integration

Project objective

Install a traditional web application stack, configure database access and serve Nextcloud through its own VirtualHost.

My implementation

  • Set up Apache, PHP extensions and MariaDB on ff-app-01.
  • Created nextcloud_db and the local database user and granted permissions.
  • Deployed Nextcloud under /var/www/nextcloud and set ownership to www-data.
  • Set up the VirtualHost and DNS name nextcloud.fraicheflow.test and accessed the web interface.

Technical context

Webroot /var/www/nextcloud
Database nextcloud_db
PHP PHP runtime and extensions for Nextcloud
MariaDB output 11.8.9 on the host

Result

Apache returned Syntax OK and listed the Nextcloud VirtualHost. Database login succeeded. HTTP returned Nextcloud HTML; HTTPS later redirected to /index.php/login.

Verification and operational evidence

sudo apache2ctl configtest
sudo apache2ctl -S
php --version
curl -I -H "Host: nextcloud.fraicheflow.test" http://127.0.0.1

Practical troubleshooting

During extraction, unzip encountered existing Nextcloud files. The working state was then checked through permissions, the VirtualHost and HTTP output. A database login error was resolved by correcting the user password.

Security and technical context

Do not publish passwords in documentation. The database stores metadata, not Nextcloud file contents by default. HTML output does not establish a complete file upload/download test.

Transferable skills

LAMP stack, SQL permissions, PHP dependencies and VirtualHost diagnosis.

Project status

Completed according to confirmation from the project lead.
