iSCSI and block storage

Project objective
Connect a separate backup block device from TrueNAS to ff-app-01 and disconnect it in a controlled manner.
My implementation
- Used the target02 backup target on TrueNAS.
- Performed discovery and login with open-iscsi.
- Partitioned the additional device, formatted it as ext4 and mounted it by UUID.
- Unmounted the file system after use before ending the iSCSI session.

Technical context
| Portal | 192.168.10.12:3260 |
|---|---|
| Target | iqn.2005-10.org.freenas.ctl:target02 |
| Mount point | /mnt/backup |
| Mount mapping | UUID-based; specific UUID not published |
Result
Login and logout were logged successfully. Afterwards, findmnt returned no output and iscsiadm reported No active sessions.
Verification and operational evidence
sudo iscsiadm -m session
lsblk -o NAME,SIZE,FSTYPE,MOUNTPOINTS
findmnt /mnt/backup
nc -vz 192.168.10.12 3260

Practical troubleshooting
When TrueNAS was off, the neighbour entry was INCOMPLETE and the host was unreachable. After powering it on, ping and TCP/3260 succeeded again.
Security and technical context
Check device names before every write operation. Never reformat an existing backup. According to the overall completion confirmation, the target01/Proxmox connection was addressed; no separate integration test is available here.
Transferable skills
Understanding targets and initiators, block devices, mount lifecycles and storage fault diagnosis.
Project status
Completed according to confirmation from the project lead.
